Such beautiful sketches, Beth. Your original chalk pastel sketch with all of the shading and the colors you used looks great. As far as the medical establishment, I know how tough it is to find the right fit with a doctor. Once you find him/her, you want it to be forever.
Hi Nancy, thank you so much for your comment, and your understanding about the medical situation. I so appreciate your support. In terms of the artwork, I guess it's a work in progress -- like me!
Wow, Beth…you are so creative… the detail here, wow! I know nothing about art but it seems drawing human bodies would be the hardest… look what you’ve accomplished! 🙌👏👏Congrats on pursuing the best doctor… way to advocate for yourself! Annoying that as new patients we are scheduled 3 months out! Grrrr. But you have peace of mind she’ll be worth it. Thanks for sharing both these parts of your life… love that you find comfort and calm in your art. Can’t wait to see more! Love you, friend! 😍🤗
Hi Joan, thank you so much for your compliment on my art. It means a lot to me. If you asked me 20 years ago if I'd ever draw the human body, it would've been a resounding "no." It has its challenges, for sure, and sometimes I have to redo sketches.
I'm so glad I do have a great doctor. Yes, the wait is difficult, but like you said, she will be worth it.
First of all, I am so glad you found a doctor that suits your needs. How wonderful that your friend invited you along to that appointment. Very generous of her. Sometimes, people think firing a doctor is easy. If you live in a smaller "market" like I do, it's not. Finding another isn't necessarily an easy solution. I'm thrilled you've found a better match. Hope you find a new vet too!
This piece of art is going to be stunningly powerful. It already is. I'm in awe of your talent, Beth, and cannot wait to see this one progress.
Thank you, Nancy. Yes, it is amazing how I found this gem of a doctor. It is not easy to have a great medical team in place. Oliver and I have an appointment with a new vet, so I'm hoping and praying that's a fit, too.
I appreciate what you said about this most recent addition to my series. I, too, am waiting to see what evolves with this painting. This week, I worked on the background of the painting, and it is too dark. I have to tap into my Patience bank and know it will improve. The key is making sure the figure is more noticeable.
I can relate to the struggle of finding good doctors! It's so frustrating when you have to deal with dismissive or uninformed physicians. I'm glad you found someone who is a good fit for you Beth. I admire your resilience and your ability to channel your experiences into such beautiful art!
Hi Marie, thank you for such nice words about my art! I really appreciate them.
The new doctor has given me hope, and that has helped me so much psychologically. Yes, finding new doctors is a challenge, indeed. I'm glad I am on the right track!
I’m so glad to hear you found a doctor you like. And I love that you’re sharing the steps as you progress through your painting. Keep sharing, keep painting.
Thank you so much for your encouragement, Alene! I will keep sharing my drafts as I go. And, yes, it's such a weight off my shoulders to have what seems to be a great doctor.
So powerful to see you transition through these different stages with your painting Beth. What an incredible journey you're taking on --each step reveals a different level of the persona and the pain. It's exciting to hear you say you're getting your mojo back. It takes a while but then one day we realize, hey, I'm solid, I've got this, I'm gonna be okay! I'm reminded of what one of my teachers said about writing a poem-and it applies to all art making including your sketches and painting--it's a genuine act of peace. And as I look around me, that's what we need more of--acts of peace. So keep painting and writing and setting up wonder in the world! Thank you Beth!
Thank you for your insightful comment. Your teacher was right: art such as poetry, painting, etc is an act of peace. I love that! That's exactly how I feel when I create art! Such a meditative peace.
This world is fraught with unrest, and now more than ever I feel that artists of all types can do themselves and the world justice by bringing peace within and for others who partake in the art.
First of all, always fire a doctor who does not listen! And secondly, congratulations on finding a new primary physician, and bless your friend for making the suggestion that you shadow her to an appointment.
The process of your art, as you know, fascinates me. I love where this piece is going. The colors you've used make me feel that her life is a fresh bruise. The scar where her left breast used to be conveys poignancy and a tender sorrow.
Often times what I get from looking at your art is how much story is contained within a single painting, or a solitary sketch. Art is doing the job it's supposed to do when it makes you feel something, when it makes you wonder -- and your art always does that for me.
I look forward to seeing the brush strokes . . .Onward.
Stephanie, thank you -- you are right: a doctor who does not listen deserves to be fired.
I so appreciate your appreciation of my art and your insights about it. Thank you so much for your kind words about how my art moves you. I'm glad you see the story in each painting; that's exactly what I want to convey: a story. Yes, the purplish and blue colors do indicate a bruise color, which is fitting for this piece.
I'm so glad my art touches you. The brush strokes will be there eventually!

It's so amazing to watch the transformation from sketch to brush. Looking forward to this one -- I think it's my favorite to date. Big hugs.
Awww thanks. I struggled with this one, but it seems to be on the right track. Fingers crossed! Sending virtual hugs.
