Congrats on submitting your artwork! I love the woman's back against the vibrant blue -- it does feel like healing. I imagine her looking into the possibility of the path that's ahead. The feeling tone of this piece speaks to an innate sense of longing while moving forward. It's my favorite. Sending good vibes and good juju (as someone else here said). Big hugs from your forever friend and fan, stephanie
Oh Beth, I’m so excited that you will enter your art pieces into this competition. I’m a big fan of your “Dear God” painting. Both of your artworks are worthy of inclusion at the Center! Good luck!
Sadly, I have seen writers and artists who are not quite as supportive as one would hope for. Here on Substack however, I am just beginning to uncover a host of kind, generous, and attentive peers who want to promote one another’s work and provide a supportive community.
You are one of those generous supporters Beth. You have been an amazing mentor for me and I’m so grateful to be part of your circle of friends and fellow artists here. Thank you for all you do to support and create a positive, nurturing space to come together and share art and ideas!
Thank you so much for your support, Gerry, and your kind words about my supporting others. You have been an amazing support to me, and I think you and I have mentored each other, my friend. We cheer each other on and are there for each other, which is really a gift.
I agree that here on Substack there are a great deal of writers/artists who are a terrific support system. I love becoming acquainted with a writer I have previously been unfamiliar with, as well as read the works of people like you, who are familiar to me. You used the word "community," which is very fitting because I feel a great sense of community in the Substack space.
Yesterday, I did all the work required to enter my artworks for possible inclusion in the cancer center's art collection. I feel good that I did this. I can't tell you how much your support means to me. You are a great friend -- and a great mentor to me.
Beth, I can totally related to your post about the snobbism, sadly. And, I am so really glad you have entered a couple of pieces for a show. I love the way the new painting is coming along.
Your compliment on my new landscape painting means a lot to me, given your excellent talent in capturing landscapes. Yes, my two pieces have now officially been entered in the show, so I will cross my fingers and hope for the best. Thank you for your support.
I am so excited for you both! Cheering you on and hoping you both have pieces selected. I know you will be happy for Alene if her piece is selected and yours is not. And vice versa.
Your points about that snobbery are spot-on. Sometimes, I do feel shut out by the bigger names (even here on Substack) who don't seem to even notice fellow writers and artists. It's so vital so lift others up, and it can be pretty easy to do it. Other creatives are not competition. They can and should be our biggest supporters.
I look forward to seeing what happens with the selection process and also to see where your landscape painting takes you. Good luck with both!
Thank you so much, my friend, for your continued support of my writing and art. Entering my two paintings for the show was exciting. I worked hard for a good part of the day to ensure that I followed the exact entry directions for each painting. Then I sent them to the committee. As you can see from her comment(s), Alene has been encouraging me to attend the same art bootcamp she attended last year, so I'm looking forward to that.
Regarding the snobbery, I agree with what you said, "Other creatives are not competition. They can and should be our biggest supporters." So well-said. You are an excellent writer, and the universe has space for all of us.
How wonderful, Beth. I will be cheering you on. I love your Dear God piece. As far as the snobbery angle of your article, I have no use for people who do that, and typically walk the other way. Good luck!
I so appreciate your support and appreciation of my art. Yes, we both agree that snobs are not for us! Thank you for your well wishes. Crossing my fingers.
Beth, I am beyond thrilled to hear you are going to enter those pieces in this call for entry! Good luck and I do hope yours get chosen! Thank you for your kind words. There is room for everyone in the art world, and everyone does better when everyone does better. I’ve learned that the moment I catch even a whiff of snobbery, I go in the opposite direction. I really hope you’ll consider CVP this year, I know you would be comfortable there and fit in with that supportive community. I felt like it prepared me well for the inevitable ups and downs, and pushed me forward in ways I never imagined as an artist starting to get my work out there.
I think your piece “Dear God” is amazing! So much emotion in that figure. Keep on going! I’ll keep you posted on any more opportunities I stumble on. Thanks for being my buddy, and I’m so excited for you! 💖
Thank you, as always, for supporting me. I'm so glad you enjoy "Dear God." And if I hear of any opportunities, I will likewise send them your way. I must admit I'm a tad nervous about submitting my two pieces, but I'm doing it! I so appreciate your encouragement.
You've kinda convinced me to go with CVP for 2025. I'm very scared to do this, and I'm not sure why. Your wonderful experience with it speaks volumes. I just emailed Nick not that long ago to see if there are still spaces open. Do you happen to know when CVP is next year?
There will be space, don’t worry. For a lot of people, it’s only scary to take a step for fear of commitment and fear that you won’t be good enough. You cannot fail at CVP. It usually goes from March to June. You can take it at your own pace, and you have access to all the info for a year. Do it! (That’s my voice!)
Thank you so much for the encouragement! I'm waiting to hear from Nick. Maybe the CVP for 2025 isn't ready for people to enroll in yet. I will keep pursuing this.

Hi Stephanie,
Thank you so very much, and you have such a nice interpretation of the painting. I so appreciate your good vibes and more good juju. Xo
I’m so happy that you are submitting your artwork. I also love this piece so much! Sending you lots of good juju!
Thanks, Susan, for your encouragement. I could use that juju. Thank you so much!

Good luck, Beth! I hope one of your pieces is chosen. What a great opportunity!!
Thank you so much, Pam! I hope so too, but if it doesn't get accepted, I still will feel lucky to have had that opportunity.

Plus, I’ll be there with you! I’m taking it again in 2025! And I promise you won’t be the person with the least experience painting!!
It will be cool to be your classmate!
