I love the sunflower! I like the details in the leaves, too. No one can judge another person’s art, really. We do it all the time when we enter contests or apply for shows, but unless an artist asks directly for feedback, it’s all personal preference. Nothing kills an artist’s soul more than having someone tell them their work is garbage. So many art teachers seem to do that to young kids, I hear those stories all the time from other artists.

It’s actually a more efficient way to work by doing a number of paintings at once. I hope you get your dozen without much difficulty. It’s always difficult, but if you enjoy it along the way, it makes it easier.

Thanks much, Alene. I wonder how many aspiring artists are discouraged by harsh criticism of their works. It's heartbreaking that the recipients of this criticism sometimes quit. I agree that creating art should be enjoyable.

Hi Beth,

The revised sunflower painting is spectacular, and I thought the first one was really good! It's wonderful that painting with oils allows you to keep revising. I'm amazed by that. And impressed.

Good for you for having 12 paintings in your rotation - surpassing your original goal of eight! I cannot wait to see where the next breast cancer themed painting leads you. I know it'll be powerful. I think being a little nervous is a good thing. And completely normal in the creative process. Good luck with it!

Hi Nancy, thank you for your kind words about my sunflower painting. I appreciate it. I'm close to finishing it. I just need to polish up the petals.

Yes, I am now focused on adding another female figure to the breast cancer series I'm working on. I found the figure I want to translate to oils and will share this on my next post.

Thanks, as always, for your support.

Hi Beth, big, big congratulations on this amazing accomplishment! You surpassed your own goal with an “artist’s dozen” which means you are really immersed in your craft with commitment and passion. Now that your studio walls are nearly full, does this mean there might be a show in the foreseeable future? (Not wanting to add pressure, just putting it out there :) ). Your gorgeous sunflower, one of my personal favorites, is even more vivid, more compelling! So excited to be sharing this journey of creativity and self care with you!

Thank you Gerry for all your support through my artist's journey. Yes, 12 paintings are a huge accomplishment for me, and I have several other paintings to do in the future. I'm not sure if I have the energy to have a show, but I am researching how to sell prints and such online.

I envision my Breast Cancer, Female and Young series being at an art gallery somewhere once I've got a good number of of paintings and feel the collection is complete.
