Less than a week ago, Joe Biden announced he would not pursue a second term as president. He is a true selfless patriot, stepping aside, doing what is best for the U.S. Kamala Harris is now in the running for the highest position in the land.
It’s been a tiring eight years for many Americans, including me. Four years during the Trump administration and four years of seeing and hearing about the traitorous insurrection the now-convicted felon fostered nearly four years ago, as well as his massive number of trials. While Biden was a welcome breath of fresh air, the news was filled with Trump, with the media giving too much attention to the MAGA crowd.
Now it’s Kamala.
Trump’s current running mate J.D. Vance had called her a “childless cat lady.” That’s what the Republican party has been reduced to. Instead of participating in intelligent discourse on issues, this party dishes out name calling, wanting to further strip the rights of women, and stealing all Americans’ rights through Project 2025.
Kamala recently spoke to a crowd in Wisconsin, and she simply electrified the crowd to support her. I haven’t felt such electric energy in a long time. And I got caught up in the excitement.
After eight years of enduring political hell, I finally felt cautious hope – that maybe she can win the presidency. The energy Harris exuded was amazing. And I loved her statement, “We are not going back.” Because that’s what the Republican party wants to do: to go back to the good old days when women were without rights and silenced.
Of course, the issues aren’t entirely about women. Under another Trump administration, everyone’s rights will be stripped away.
Kamala Harris is our only hope against dictatorship. I support her and have been donating to the democratic party. I encourage others to do the same. This isn’t about voting for her because we want to see the first woman president in U.S. history. This is about voting for a capable, intelligent person with great leadership skills.
This is about defeating a would-be dictator.
As you know, dear readers, my posts tend not to be political. But too much is at stake to keep silent.
In her insightful essay Sticks and Stones May Break My Bones, Stephanie Raffelock says, “In some ways, we’ve come a long way, but the tired old tropes of masculine dominance, courtesy of the GOP and the notion of Christian Nationalism wants to pull us back into the past where we will know our place, stay barefoot and pregnant and make America Great Again. Define “‘great again.’”
And for those who are unsure how to pronounce Kamala’s first name, please read Alene Nitzky’s fine post Comma LA!!!!! Nitzky says, “So, for those people out there who still have not learned to pronounce her name- including some of the members of Congress, which says a lot about them- get with the program. And learn it fast. Start practicing now. Kamala. Kamala. Comma, La.”
Kamala Harris is correct. We can’t go back.
My next post will share the art I’ve been working on recently.
Until next week,
Beth
I agree and it is time to speak out. We all need to learn not to be intimidated into silence by the party of hate and grievance. Thanks for the shout out. I am so looking forward to moving forward. Watching Kamala speak to the teachers union was also electrifying for me. I feel like we’ve all received an influx of fresh air and are able to breathe better. I intend to do everything I can to support her. I donated to her campaign immediately upon her endorsement by Biden. I want to live in a country that values the potential of its people, and I hope there will be a major housecleaning in November up and down the ballot.
Love this - and I agree whole-heartedly! My husband was watching the "White Dudes for Harris" zoom last night and one of the speakers said something along the lines of if you need to know how to pronounce her name, it's pronounced "Madam President". Great line!
